Hingham Lighting Plant Extends Conduit System
The existing circuit has reached its capacity.
The Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant will be extending an existing conduit system on Tower Brook Road in order to supply more energy to the town.
Hingham Municipal Light Engineer Panos Tokadjian said the existing circuit reached its capacity.
“When it was built it was never meant to have this capacity,” Tokadjian said.

Earlier this summer, Hingham lost power during a heat wave because too many people overloaded the existing circuit. Paul Heanue, the General Manager of said the overload was the highest amount of electricity ever used at one time in Hingham. Employees who have worked at HMLP for over 25 years had never recalled a power overload like the one which occurred in July.
Heanue said the town of Hingham used a total of 58.8 megawatts which exceeded the previous town record of 54.4 megawatts.

The new conduit system is expected to run from Hobart Street to Tower Brook over to Central Street.
