Hingham Native Leads Northwestern Lacrosse to 7th NCAA Championship

On Sunday, Hingham native Kelly Amonte Hiller coached the Northwestern   women's lacrosse team to their seventh NCAA National Title in the last eight years.

The Northwestern Wildcats defeated the No. 4 Syracuse, 8-6, Sunday night in the 2012 NCAA National Championship game in Stony Brook.

Amonte Hiller, who is from Hingham , has lead NW to all seven of its titles and is responsible for one of the best dynasties in NCAA history.

 "To have such a great weekend and have executed our game plan and done so well all over the field, I'm just really proud of what these girls have done," Amonte Hiller said in an article on NUSports.com "As a coach, you can try to encourage and inspire, but it's the girls that do it on the field, and they were determined and they were really on a mission."

Amonte Hiller has now been part of nine NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship teams, winning two National Titles in 1997 and 2001 while playing Attack for the University of Maryland.

Northwestern’s seven titles are the second most in NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship History.  Only Maryland has more all-time with 10.

The Hingham native who attended high school at Thayer Academy in Braintree comes from a family with strong athletic roots. Amonte Hiller is the sister of retired NHL star Tony Amonte.  Her sister Kim Abbate is an assistant lacrosse coach at Norwell High School and was an  All-American Field Hockey star at Bentley College  and her brother Rocco is an NHL Representative for RBK hockey who once played college hockey at UMass Lowell.
