Hingham Officials Seeking Comments on Animal Ban at Town Hall
A newly-adopted policy prohibits most animals from Town Hall in Hingham.

Town officials recently decided to adopt a new policy banning animals from inside Town Hall.
The Town of Hingham is now seeking public comment on the policy, and has posted the following information on the town website:

Town of Hingham Town Hall Animal Policy
The Board of Selectmen for the Town of Hingham hereby adopts the following policy:

It is hereby found and declared that in order to foster the public health, safety and welfare, there is a need for the Town of Hingham to generally exclude animals from its Town Hall.
Therefore, animals of all types shall not be permitted inside the Town Hall for the Town of Hingham except as follows:
- Service animals (as defined by 28 C.F.R. § 35.104 and in accordance with the regulations at 28 C.F.R. § 35.136) that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, and accompanied by said individual, shall be permitted inside the Town Hall for the Town of Hingham on the same terms and conditions as generally govern the admission of the public inside the Town Hall; or
- Animals attending a training program conducted by the Town of Hingham Recreation Commission; or
- K-9 dogs under the control of a law enforcement officer.
