Restaurants at Linden Ponds Focus on Creativity, Collaboration, and Socialization

Janet Shipman, Resident Advisory Council member, works with Dining Director Steve Slicis to support resident dining experiences

At Linden Ponds, an Erickson Senior Living community in Hingham, Mass., residents savor delicious dishes prepared by professional chefs at on-site restaurants.

More importantly, each made-to-order meal provides the opportunity for social connection. Whether gathering with neighbors for dinner, celebrating a special occasion with friends, or inviting loved ones to share a meal, dining is a highlight of life at Linden Ponds.

"If my husband and I want to see friends and be social, we go to one of the restaurants or make a date to join another couple," says resident Janet Shipman. "That's always fun!"

Variety for every taste

Each of Linden Ponds' six restaurants features its own distinct menu and atmosphere. All entrees are made-to-order, allowing chefs to better meet dietary needs and preferences.

The newly renovated Fireside Restaurant serves up signature dishes like prime rib, seared duck, and trout, with the full menu rotating every two weeks to keep things new and exciting. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Harbor Café offers fresh salads, sandwiches, and more.

New to Linden Ponds' dining scene is Coopers Tavern, where guests can choose to sit at the bar for a handcrafted cocktail or gather around a table with friends to catch the latest sports game on TV. Classic pub fare is always on the menu here.

Open for lunch and dinner, the Acorn Pub features a casual atmosphere and regional favorites, such
as the New England lobster roll. Residents also love the hearty French onion soup and the new Backyard Burger.

The Overlook Restaurant is known for its creative, elevated dishes, including rack of lamb, Thai salmon, and pecan chicken. And Blackstone Kitchen celebrates classic cooking techniques and familiar recipes, all made with fresh, wholesome ingredients.

"I really appreciate the number of options available," says Janet.

Powerful partnership

To ensure residents continue to enjoy five-star meals, Dining Director Stephen Slicis and his team partner with the resident dining committee to identify strengths and ways to improve.

"Committee members deliver information and feedback from residents directly to Stephen," says Janet, who serves as Resident Advisory Council liaison to the dining committee.

"It's a wonderful partnership. By working with the dining committee, we are able to gather feedback on our menus," says Slicis. "This input helps us adjust offerings, introduce new dishes, and refine the dining experience based on what residents value most."

He adds, "One of the strongest trends we're seeing right now is a growing preference for healthier options." In response, Slicis and his team have started incorporating more nutrient-dense vegetables--such as Swiss chard, kale, spinach, and other dark, leafy greens--into dishes.

Slicis notes that residents can share suggestions in other ways as well.

"We maintain an open-door policy," he says. "Residents can speak with chefs in person or utilize the QR codes located on each table, which direct you to an online survey. We want to hear these in-the-moment reviews."

Celebrating together

Throughout the year, the dining team also creates delicious menus for a range of special events, including Super Bowl Sunday, Lunar New Year, and National Heart Healthy Month--just to name a few.

"We frequently host 'night with the chef' dinners, where our chefs prepare special meals for groups of ten or more people. Residents really love them," says Slicis. "These events also consistently raise generous donations for the Resident Care Fund. We are proud to play a meaningful role in supporting
the community."

Many residents also enjoy participating in the Saturday Night Supper Club, which introduces new culinary experiences through a unique theme and curated menu.

"The special event menus are always a wonderful surprise, and the Saturday Night Supper Club is a big hit," says Janet.

Time to socialize

For Janet, what really makes mealtime shine is the vibrant, social atmosphere. In fact, new residents often take advantage of the dining buddy program, which pairs them with neighbors for a meal one-on-one or at "community tables" in the restaurants.

"Many relationships begin by enjoying a meal together," says Janet. "No one ever has to eat alone. Dining at Linden Ponds provides not only a great meal but a wonderful opportunity to socialize."
