The police department's goal is to have at least 500 people take the pledge to either use or be a Designated Driver this holiday season. Supported by the 25 participating establishments, the Designated Driver Program in Hingham runs year round, however, this promotion targets the busy holiday season. This promotion runs just before Thanskgiving through New Years Day when people are attending holiday related parties and functions.
A Designated Driver is someone who agrees not to drink any alcoholic beverages that evening and to safely transport home those who have been drinking. It does not mean at the end of the night that the “most sober” or the “least drunk” person be designated to drive.
The online pledge, which takes less than a minute to complete, will also give the police some feedback about Designated Drivers. The pledge form asks if during the last three years if they have either used or been a Designated Driver and if they intend to use a Designated Driver at a Hingham establishment, a private home/event or an out of town establishment.
The promotion starts Thursday, November 15, 2012 and ends January 2, 2013.
To take the pledge, go to the Hingham Police Department’s home page, www.hpd.org. Upon submitting the pledge, the person is automatically entered to win the limo night out.
The winner will receive a four hour night out in an 8-10 passenger limousine.
A winner will be randomly selected by computer on January 3, 2013.
The limousine night out was donated by A Plus Coach, Inc., of Whiting St., Hingham.
The promotion is open to anyone 21 and older in Eastern Massachusetts and not limited to Hingham residents. It is open to staff of the restaurants and even town employees, with the exception of the staff of the Hingham Police Department and their immediate family members.
