Hingham Police Chief Michael Peraino said the department does it every year around Christmas to strengthen the relationship between the police department and the town’s senior citizens.
“We have a very close relationship with the seniors here in Hingham and it makes us feel so good to be able to do this because for a lot of these seniors, this is the only time all year they get to see each other,” Peraino said.

Mary Vaughn of South Hingham was very appreciative of the annual lunch as she ate salad with some her closest friends and neighbors.
“The officers in this town are just wonderful,” Vaughn said. “We really couldn’t live without them.”
Approximately 325 seniors from all over town were present at the lunch; one of the largest turnouts Chief Peraino has seen.
“We love doing this for them and they really appreciate it,” Peraino said.
Members of the Police Department strapped on aprons over their uniforms and joined volunteers and crossing guards in serving the hundreds of seniors food, drink and coffee and tea.
