Hingham Police Warn Businesses to Be Aware of Counterfeit $20 Bills

The Hingham Police Dept. is alerting business owners it has received reports from two South Hingham businesses of three counterfeit $20 bills found in their cash deposits on the same day. 

One businesses, on Whiting Street (Rte. 53) found the $20 bill in their deposit from May 6. 

The second business, inside the Derby Street Shoppes, had two $20 bills in their deposit also on May 6.

Police say the bills appeared very textured, very green, and had a slight different feel than a genuine bill.

They also did not have a band visible inside the bill and did not have a hologram. When checked with an over the counter counterfeit pen, they did not leave the correct color marking.

All three bills were accepted by the employees at the time of the purchase and their authenticity was not questioned when they were presented.
