Hingham Residents Bring a Touch of Spring Inside Linden Ponds

Four Linden Ponds residents thought they would kick off Spring his year by creating real gardens inside the retirement community.

 “A Touch of Spring,” created by LP residents Marty Saunders, Roy Peterson, Ding Wilding-Smith and Jim McGurl, includes six gardens (all completely real) themed after Children’s Stories.

“We have had Touch of Spring the past few years at Linden Ponds but this year we took it to another level,” said Saunders.  “Roy Peterson was in charge of all the wood support, Ding Wilding-Smith was the children’s librarian, the major artist was Jim McGurl, and then my role was choosing and picking out all the plants and flowers and in some garden displays, vegetables!  I also worked with staff at Linden Ponds to create the designs and determine the concept.  We hope everyone likes what we have created.”

The Gardens include: Jack and the Beanstalk, Wizard of Oz, Make Way for the Ducklings, Peter Rabbit, Winnie the Pooh, and The Secret Garden. 

“They have been working on this for weeks and everyone at Linden Ponds is very excited to see their work,” said Jeremy Graham, Community Resources Coordinator, Linden Ponds.  “Between trips to the Flower Market in Boston, designing the flower and plant arrangements, painting characters on wood, and cutting painted characters out of the wood, these four residents have worked very hard to make this happen.”
