Hingham Residents Toss Tough Questions at US Senate Candidate
Gabriel Gomez visited Linden Ponds on Thursday.
Gabriel Gomez visited Linden Ponds on Thursday morning and was asked about gun control, social security, and his background.
The Republican senate candidate told the retirement community that he would look to work with both parties to serve the people.
Unlike other Republicans, Gomez said he supports extended background checks for residents to obtain gun licenses, he believes if two people love each other they should be allowed to get married, and that climate change is caused by man.

His answers impressed Linden Ponds resident Jean Whalen who said she was tired of republican “radical crazies,” and referred to Gomez as “sensible.”
“You’ll need to work hard to win my vote,” she told the Republican candiate.

Another LP resident criticized Gomez for his kindness, saying he would never win because he is “too nice.”
Gomez responded by saying nice guys finish first sometimes.
He also told residents that he wouldn’t cut Medicaid for senior citizens and said one of his biggest assets was that he doesn’t have a background in politics.
The Republican hopeful from Cohasset hopes voters will look at his background in serving the people and choose him over his opponent Edward Markey in the June 25 special senate election.
“Success isn’t guaranteed, but I think what should be guaranteed is at least having the chance at the opportunity…fundamentally that’s why I’m running.”
Gomez was one of many politicians to visit Linden Ponds during a campaign run. The retirement community makes up precinct 5A in Hingham and has an 87 percent voter turnout. It also has voting booths right on its campus.
As of August, the Hingham retirement community had 324 registered Democrats, 185 registered Republicans and 586 registered voters who are not affiliated with either party, according to Linden Ponds Political Interest Chairman Marty Saunders.
Markey is scheduled to visit Linden Ponds next week.
