Hingham Schools Aim to Prevent Cyber-Bullying

School Committee members adopt Acceptable Use Policy for Hingham Schools to prevent cyber-bullying.

The proposed Acceptable Use Policy for students’ use of technology outside of school was adopted with immediate effect by the School Committee members on Monday.

With cyber-bullying being a concern for students and parents alike, the AUP allows to discipline students inside or outside of school for bullying through the internet.  Students will now be disciplined for making malicious comments towards other students by using social websites such as Twitter and Facebook, even if they do it outside of school.

According to Hingham principals Dr. Paula Girouard McCann (), Roger Boddie () , and Eliza Burns (),  the 2010-11 goals for the AUP  have been achieved.   The three principals said that more engagement between parents and the individual schools was at the top of the list as advanced technolgy keeps growing.
