Hingham Selectman Falls in State Senate Primary
Find out the results of the state senate primary election.

HINGHAM, MA - Paul Gannon will remain on the Hingham Board of Selectman.
The Hingham resident was unsuccessful in his bid for higher office, losing to former Hull Selectman Joan Meschino in the Democratic primary for the Norfolk and Plymouth state Senate seat.
"I'm excited to get to work on the South Shore electing Joan Meschino our next state Senator. After four consecutive Democratic victories in recent special elections - all of which were marked by overwhelming questionable outside spending and campaigning by Republican Super PACs and Gov. Baker - we're expecting Republicans to spend whatever they think it takes to hold a seat they've had for over 20 years," Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Tom McGee said in a statement.

On the Republican side, Weymouth Town Council President Patrick O'Connor beat Marshfield's Stephen Gill.
"With his proven record as Weymouth's town council president, Patrick O'Connor will be a strong successor to Bob Hedlund in the state senate. The MassGOP is proud to congratulate Patrick on his primary victory, and we're excited to work with him ahead of next month's special election to ensure the South Shore has strong representation on Beacon Hill," MassGOP Chairman Kirsten Hughes said in a statement.
