Hingham Will Turn Off Lights For Earth Hour
Next Saturday, Hingham has agreed to shut off its lights for one hour to demonstrate a concern about the impact of energy use.

The will shut off its light next Saturday and participate in Earth Hour.
Organized by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour asks participants to extinguish all nonessential lighting from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 31 to demonstrate a concern about the impact of energy use.
Earlier this month, Pam Hardy of the Energy Action Commission in Hingham brought the idea to Hingham Selectman and they agreed to partake in the cause.

“Where ever we can [shut off lights] we will because I think it’s an important cause,” said Hingham Town Administrator Ted Alexiades. “We will try to pitch in as much as well can.”
As part of Earth Hour, the Town of Hingham, the , and several Hingham businesses will be shutting off non-essential lighting.

Hardy and the Energy Action Commission hopes that many Hingham homes will do the same.
Hingham will join a growing list of communities, small and large, around the globe that are committed to raising awareness of energy use.
“Our goal is to stimulate discussions throughout town about energy use, conservation, and climate change and we invite residents and businesses in our community to explore permanent actions that you an take beyond Earth Hour to reduce energy consumption.,” the Hingham Energy Action Committee said in a release addressed to the Hingham community.
