Hingham police are investigating a break-in on Gardner Street that happened Friday night into Saturday morning while the residents slept.
The residents reported the break-in at 6 a.m. Saturday morning, according to a statement by the police. Access had been made at the house, near the Rockland town line, through a rear ground-level kitchen window.
"The screen was cut, to allow the suspect(s) to reach in, lift the the screen, then lift the window (the window was had been closed but was not locked)," police said.
"The residents purse, which had been on the kitchen table, was stolen. However, a lap top and cell phone nearby where not taken. The purse and other items would have been visible to a suspect from outside the house looking in the window."
The purse was later found with the cash and credit cards missing in a nearby backyard.
