Hull Man Arrested For Stealing Hand Gun at Hingham Restaurant

Police say a 35 year-old Hull man stole a purse containing a gun at the Ocean Kai Restaurant, and a day later, he tried to sell the weapon.

A Hull man is due back in court in September after stealing a handgun at a Hingham restaurant and then trying to sell it.

Gregory Lavoie, age 35  Lavoie of 6 Olney St., Hull was arrested on charges of carrying a firearm without a license; unlawful possession of ammunition; carrying a dangerous weapon; and receiving stolen property over $250.

Lavoie allegedly stole a purse containing a Smith &Wesson .380-caliber handgun from a woman at the bar area of the last weekend (Aug. 12), according to a Weymouth police report.  The stolen purse also contained cash and credit cards.

According to police, Lavoie sat next to the victim and her husband at the Asian Restaurant’s bar and stayed for one beer. After he left the Lincoln Street restaurant, the victim noticed her purse was gone.

Lavoie was arrested the next night (Aug. 13) at the CVS on Route 3A, Bridge Street in Weymouth after he tried to sell the gun to an undercover Weymouth officer.

Inside the CVS, the undercover officer met Lavoie and gave him $250 in a brown Dunkin' Donuts bag to pay for the gun. Lavoie, returned the bag and asked for an additional $20 to pay for the ammunition in the gun.  When the undercover officer provided him with a total of $270, Lavoie sold the gun and was arrested by Weymouth Police.    The gun contained five .380 caliber rounds of ammunition and a silver magazine with red feeding device.

The arrest was made minutes from where Lavoie works, at the Weymouth McDonalds at the Riverway Plaza on Route 3A.

The owner of the gun was later contacted, and she identified the gun as her own.

Lavoie is due back in court on September 13.
