Is Two Hours Enough Time To Enjoy Hingham Square?

Some shoppers feel rushed by the two hour parking limit in Hingham Square.

Hingham Square shoppers are only allowed to park for a maximum time of two hours before receiving a ticket and this has upset some residents.

One resident who disagrees with the parking limits emailed Patch with her concerns.

“What if you get a facial and eyebrow waxing.. well I guess that will be a ticket!,” she wrote.  “What if you go to a matinee and then Brighams.. well I guess that is a ticket.  What if you want to just catch up with your friends at Brewed Awakings... I guess it is a ticket or go to Bruegger’s Bagels.  I think the limit should be longer.

While some  shoppers feel rushed, an overwhelming number of Hingham businesses said they  were glad that Hingham Police enforce the area.

At a Downtown Business Associaton meeting last Spring,  many of the business owners said they want the parking situation to be enforced so more customers have a chance to enjoy the Square.

The Hingham Police Department do enforce the parking limits. In 2011, they issued 295 tickets in Hingham Square and in 2010 they wrote 208 parking tickets in the Square.

"We enforce the regulations on a consistent fair basis in hope that it will lead to voluntary compliance," Hingham Police Sgt. Steven Dearth said. "Officers attempt to do this when possible among other duties."
