Dharma Dreams Vocational Center

Dharma Dreams Vocational Center is a nonprofit vocational and life skills program based in Hanover, Massachusetts, serving young adults ages 18–26 with moderate cognitive disabilities. Our mission is to help students build practical job skills in the trades, confidence, independence, emotional regulation, and workplace readiness through hands-on vocational training and supportive learning experiences. The program was created in response to the growing need for meaningful transition opportunities for young adults as they move beyond high school and into adulthood. Many families struggle to find programs that combine practical workforce preparation, life skills development, communication skills, confidence-building, and supportive real-world learning experiences. Dharma Dreams offers hands-on exposure to vocational areas such as landscaping and grounds maintenance, painting and surface preparation, workplace professionalism, entrepreneurship basics, and life skills training. Students also learn mind-body techniques that support focus, confidence, emotional regulation, stress management, and workplace success. Our introductory summer program, launching at the end of July, is designed to help students and families become familiar with the program and explore vocational interests before participating in longer-term programming. Long-term programming focuses on helping students develop greater independence, workplace readiness, responsibility, confidence, and practical trade skills through structured, hands-on learning experiences. Dharma Dreams Vocational Center aims to create supportive pathways toward greater independence, meaningful employment opportunities, and a stronger sense of purpose while helping young adults feel valued, capable, and connected to their future potential.

Last summer the plan for the Town of Hingham was to make Jackass Park more beautiful.  This year,  with the efforts of the Hingham Garden Club and the Shade Tree Committee, that goal has been achieved. The park located in the middle of Main Street has added  large maple trees, a perennial flower and shrub bed at each end of the park, and a River Birch, which will have the second pink dogwood in its midst. The Garden club has paid for the park's new designs and plants but the Department of Public Works will  pay for the maintenance of the park, which DPW Superintendent Randy Sylvester said would cost about $2,000 a year. Last year, although some residents questioned the decision to make the additions to the park, selectman Bruce Rabuffo said the new designs were worth the money. "The price of beautification is a price that someone has to pay for," Rabuffo said last September.  "This is prudent money-well spent." So what do you think?
