Jackass Park: More Beautiful Than Ever?

Let us know if you like the new additions to Jackass Park.

Last summer the plan for the Town of Hingham was to make Jackass Park more beautiful.  This year,  with the efforts of the Hingham Garden Club and the Shade Tree Committee, that goal has been achieved.

The park located in the middle of Main Street has added  large maple trees, a perennial flower and shrub bed at each end of the park, and a River Birch, which will have the second pink dogwood in its midst.

The Garden club has paid for the park’s new designs and plants but the Department of Public Works will  pay for the maintenance of the park, which DPW Superintendent Randy Sylvester said would cost about $2,000 a year.

Last year, although some residents questioned the decision to make the additions to the park, selectman Bruce Rabuffo said the new designs were worth the money.

“The price of beautification is a price that someone has to pay for,” Rabuffo said last September.  “This is prudent money-well spent.”
