Feb. 18 at 7:15 PM "The Search for Radiance: A Primer on Mysticism for Ordinary Folk," Mark Burrows, Ph.D.

This talk explores what it means that the world all around us is a theater of the mystical. Three voices associated with the mystical tradition in Christianity—Hildegard of Bingen, Meister Eckhart, and Julian of Norwich—will guide us in finding immediate and practical ways to open our lives to God’s presence in the ordinary. A poem by the Polish-American writer Adam Zagajewski will guide our way with his suggestion that “We seek radiance in a gray hour, at noon or in the chimneys of the dawn, even on a bus, in November, while an old priest nods beside us.”
Mark Burrows is professor of theology and literature at the University of Applied Sciences in Bochum, Germany.theologian, historian, and poet, his interests are wide-ranging, with books and articles exploring theological themes, spirituality, and poetics, with a special focus on mysticism and poetics. He is an oblate of Glastonbury Abbey and regularly offers retreats at the Meditatio Centre in London and Hacienda Los Olivos near Granada, Spain, among other places.
