Local group to present 'August: Osage County'

Canton Community Theatre stages Pulitzer Prize-winning play for four-night run Aug. 16-19

The Canton Community Theatre will present Tracy Lett’s “August: Osage County” April 16-18 at 8 p.m. and April 19 at 4 p.m. at the Village Shoppes at Cobb Corner, 95 Washington St., Canton, next to the Shoe Department.

Lett’s play won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, as well as the Drama Desk Award for Best New Play.

It tells the story of the Westons, a large extended family that comes together at their Oklahoma home when the family patriarch disappears. This forces them to confront unspoken truths and secrets. The family also must contend with Violet Weston, the matriarch of the Weston family, a pill-popping, deeply unsettled woman at the center of this storm.
