Make a difference to a child impacted by homelessness in Norwell with School on Wheels of Massachusetts

School on Wheels of Massachusetts is seeking 1-on-1 volunteer tutors to work with children in grades K-12 in Norwell & other communities

(BROCKTON, MA) – Can you spare 1-to-2 hours a week to influence the life of a child impacted by homelessness?

School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) is seeking one-on-one after school tutors/mentors to work with children in grades K-12 at shelters, hotels, and schools in Brockton, Fall River, New Bedford, Norwell, Randolph, Stoughton and Weymouth starting in September 2015. Over 1,800 Massachusetts students have benefitted from SOWMA’s customized academic services in the 10 years since the organization’s founding.

Each SOWMA tutor is matched with a student for one or two hours a week. Tutors work with students on homework and school projects. Tutoring sessions are designed to fill in the layers of learning that may be missing due to frequent moves and school absences. Each SOWMA tutor is expected to serve as a mentor and positive role model. Teens and adults aged 18 and older are needed. High school students may tutor with a parent or other adult that they know. No prior experience is required.
