New Hingham Swap Shop To Open This Week

The Swap Shop will only be opened for limited hours until they recruit more help.

The new Hingham Swap Shop will open on Thursday but organizers are still looking for more volunteers to help operate the “free-cycle” center.

The new Swap Shop has space to keep items for several days and will even protect some items from the weather, to make it easier for them to be picked up for re-use but it is still lacking workers.

According to the Long Range Waste Disposal Planning and Recycling Committee, the swap shop needs two volunteers each shift and will only be opened for limited hours until they recruit more help.

The Swap Shop will be open 20 hours each week on the following schedule: Thursdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Fridays 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and  Sundays 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The idea of the new Swap Shop is to keep items out of the trash stream, reduce the town’s waste disposal costs and also helps the environment.

Training for volunteers is held each month at the DPW conference room on the one Saturday per month when the DPW is opened for stickers and permits. I'd be happy to answer more question if you need info.
