New Selectman Thanks Hingham

"I just want to express my appreciation and thanks to the voters of Hingham for their confidence in me," he said. "I look forward to serving them and the town in the upcoming three years."

The morning after Paul Healey was named Hingham’s new selectman, he wasn’t still celebrating.  The longtime Hingham resident was up early doing what the average Hingham resident does on a Wednesday.

“Right now I’m getting off to work and doing what everyone else does and trying to make a living,” Healey said at 8 a.m.

For Healey, serving people is what he does best.

Healey is an attorney. He was raised in Hingham and has raised his children in town. Before becoming selectman he had spend 19 years on the town’s Planning Board after working as a Hingham Police officer for 11 years.

Earlier this year Healey decided to run for selectman so he could continue helping the town he loves.

“I’ve seen the town grow and I want to continue doing that at a higher level,” he said last week. “I love the way this town is and I want to keep it that way.”

In Tuesday’s Town Election, the people of Hingham chose Healey over his opponent Carlton “Al” Chambers by over 2,700 votes.

Healey took 80 percent of the vote, he won in all six precincts and received 3,562 votes,  compared to Chambers’ 847 votes.

"I just want to express my appreciation and thanks to the voters of Hingham for their confidence in me," he said. "I look forward to serving them and the town in the upcoming three years."

Healey will replace Selectmen Chairwoman Laura Burns who did not run for reelection.  He will join Irma Lauter and Bruce Rabuffo on the board.
