Norwell Democrat Announces Candidacy for State Senate
Genevieve Davis of Norwell plans to challenge current State Sen. Robert Hedlund.

Genevieve Davis of Norwell has announced her candidacy for the Massachusetts State Senate in the Plymouth Norfolk District, which includes Hingham along with Weymouth, Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Norwell and Scituate.
Davis, a Democrat, has over three decades of professional experience in the non-profit arena where she has devoted her energies to solving problems related to the needs of families and communities.
"Moreover, my work in non-profits has made me acutely aware of the problems facing small businesses where jobs are created," she said.

As a state senator, Davis said she plans to increase employment opportunities for the residents of this district and the state.
“According to the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, there will be minimal job growth through 2013, which will impact state revenues, Davis said. "If we are to make progress in this sluggish economy, we must look to new ideas and new leaders. We cannot be content with career politicians who are more interested in serving themselves than the people they represent.”

Davis earned her bachelor’s degree from Manhattanville College and an MBA from Boston University. She is married to George Davis and they are the parents of two sons, Ian, a college graduate currently serving in the US Navy and Evan who is currently a college student.
She has served as an appointed member of the Norwell High School Parent Council and also served as one of the architects of a study that resolved overcrowding in elementary schools.
"If I am elected, I will not shrink from taking a stand on tough issues and I will never compromise the interests of the people in this district and the Commonwealth by acting in my own self-interest,” said Davis.
Before challenging current State Senator Robert Hedlund (R-Weymouth), Davis must first be elected in a Democratic primary on September 18, 2012 in which she will run against other Democratic State Senator candidates.
