Open Beer in Truck of Man Arrested for 4th Offense OUI
The following information was supplied by the Hingham Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 51-year-old New Bedford man was arrested early Sunday morning after Hingham police saw him driving dangerously on Route 3A from Hingham into Weymouth.
Stephen B. Barnes, whose license was already revoked due to previous OUI convictions, was pulled over by Hingham Officer Justin Burns with the help of the Weymouth PD shortly after 3 a.m., according to a press release from the HPD.
Burns was patrolling the area when he saw Barnes' F-150 driving slowly – 20-25mph in a 40mph zone – and weaving from lane to lane.
"As the Officer began a traffic stop the truck crossed over the Back River Bridge into Weymouth almost striking the side of the bridge. The Officer obtained permission and assistance from the Weymouth Police to stop the vehicle due to its dangerous operation and risk to public safety," according to the release.
Barnes refused to provide ID or registration, smelled of alcohol and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, Burns reported. His speech was also "extremely slurred." Barnes nearly fell over when getting out of the truck to perform sobriety tests, and he was arrested before their completion.
Barnes was "passed out lying across the cruiser’s rear seat" when they arrived at the station, the release said. Inside the vehicle, officers found an open, three-quarters full can of Natural Ice beer and an open almost empty bottle of Jack Daniel’s rum.
He was charged with Operating Under the Influence (Alcohol) 4th Offense, Driving with a Revoked License for OUI while OUI, Operating to Endanger, Driving with an Open Container of Alcohol, Driver Refuse/Failure to Identify Themselves, a Marked Lanes Violation and was ordered held without bail by the Clerk Magistrate.
Barnes was due to be arraigned Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Hingham District Court.
