Over 500 kids and their parents will take part in the 5th Annual Pan-Mass Challenge Hingham bike ride and a local raffle to raise money for cancer on Sunday.
Event coordinator Lisa Patterson said the event is very popular among South Shore families and said the registration is already full. According to Patterson one of the largest teams is made up of 150 Marshfield children.
This year’s ride will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday at the on Union Street and the goal is to raise a total of $45,000 to benefit the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

The event is for children, ages 3-15 and who will ride along five different bike routes to raise money for cancer. Participants are required to wear helmets.
“It’s a free party for everyone,” Patterson said.

Patterson said children usually finish up with the event around 10:30 a.m. and then take part in the fun events which include a magician, a moon-walk, a cardio hip-hop session, and helmet decorating offered by New England Mountain Sports. Stop & Shop will offer free food and refreshments, will be giving out ice cream, and the and will help out organizing the bike ride.
There will also be a cancer survivor who will speak to children on the importance of the event, Patterson said.
For adults, there will be a raffle where participants can win gift cards that were donated by local restaurants and businesses. The prizes in this year’s raffle include $400 to , 52 weeks of free ice cream from Brighams, toys from Magic Beans, and sweets from .
The event is scheduled to take place even if it rains.
