Lutheran House of Prayer celebrates Oktoberfest in Hingham
This weekend, a Germanic atmosphere came to Hingham with the celebration of Oktoberfest at the House of Prayer on Main Street.
The first Oktoberfest was held in Munich, Germany, over 200 years ago and was an instant success with 50,000 people attending and ensuring that it became an annual occasion. The event held at the Lutheran church is slightly smaller but it has been running for 26 years now and is an eagerly anticipated part of the Hingham calendar.
At the two day celebration, Hingham residents and visitors from other towns were treated to the music of King Ludwig's Bavarian Band, the endurance test that is stein-holding and a yodeling competition, all washed down with beer and bratwurst.

Attendees could also browse the large array of local arts and crafts on display and sample an authentic Oktoberfest menu that had been prepared by The Smoke House in neighboring Norwell.
Admission was free but the Church requested that a donation of a non-perishable food item for local food pantries was the minimum requirement for entry.
