PHOTOS: Hingham Residents Enjoy the Golden Oldies

Linden Ponds' Summer Concert Series had residents clapping their hands and singing along to the songs from the 50's and 60's.

Linden Ponds residents took a trip back in time to the 50’s and 60’s on Tuesday afternoon while enjoying live music from their younger days.

As part of Linden Ponds’ Summer Concert Series which takes place every Tuesday, residents clapped along and smiled to tunes such as "Jump Jive an’ Wail"  and "It Don't Mean A Thing"  which were performed by the talented group, Mixed Emotions.

Joe McStowe, Community Services Manager at Linden Ponds,  who organizes the concerts said it is one of the most popular summer events at the Hingham retirement community.

“It’s an opportunity to get outside,” McStowe said.  “We don’t have a lot of venues outside the garden, so once a week everyone comes out; it’s just a good time for them.”

On Tuesday a large crowd of residents had gathered under the shade of the umbrellas to watch the concert and although they remained seated for the duration of the show, their facial expressions showed enjoyment and many residents sung along to the music while sipping ice tea and lemonade.

Linden Ponds has been showcasing the concert series for the last five years and each performance continues to draw hundreds of residents.

“It’s a total mix of music,” McStowe said. “Last week we had Blue Grass, we have New Orleans jazz coming and the United States Navy Band. Every week it’s something different.”

This year’s series features a 35 member chorus from Georia, The Incomparable Ray Greene, The Kilby Street Bluegrass Band, Riverside Theatre Works Mixed Emotions, The Afrika Gente Band, The Swinging Seniors, The Dixie Diehards, The United States Navy Showband, and Michael Ricca.
