Hingham Man Gets Six Months in Jail for Assault

Michael P. Gabriel, 47, of 170 Rockland St., Apt. 7,  Hingham was found guilty in of two counts of assault and battery and was sentenced to concurrent terms of six months in the Plymouth County House Correction. The charges stem from a Dec. 26, 2011 incident in Hingham at 4 p.m. when police responded to a report of a possible domestic dispute at the address. Police said Gabriel pushed the victim to the floor and then threw her against a wall. Witnesses corroborated the victim's account, police said.

Jeffrey Q. Ast, 20, of 47 School St., Hingham had a charge of disturbing the peace continued without a finding of guilty in Hingham District Court to Nov. 2. The court dismissed related charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, improper operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to use signal. The charges stem from a Sept. 27, 2009 incident in Hingham at 5:43 p.m. when police said they observed a blue Honda Sport enter the travel lane at 40 mph, then pass vehicles and reenter the travel lane. Police then stopped the vehicle and alleged that Ast became abusive and used profanity.

Barbara A. Bearden, 48, of 11 Blackhorse Lane, Hingham had three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault and battery continued to June 5 for a pretrial hearing in Hingham District Court. The charges stem from a Feb. 14 incident in Hingham when police were dispatched to the address for a report of a husband being assault by his wife. Police said Bearden allegedly threw a box of candy at her husband and pushed her daughter onto the floor, then threw a clipboard at her.
