Police Log: Assault in a Clothing Store, Stolen Groceries, and More

The following is from the Hingham Police Log. Where arrests and charges are mentioned, they do not imply conviction.

November 30

10:44 a.m. - A vehicle parked on Derby Street for two days with shell casing used and unused in the vehicle was reported.

6:27 p.m. - Police were called to Stop and Shop on Lincoln Street after a shoplifter took $500 worth of groceries. An employee was able to retrieve the groceries but the alleged shoplifted escaped with no description of the vehicle that he left in.

December 1

4:53 p.m. - During a motor vehicle stop on Main Street, Christopher Carney, 45, of Duxbury, was arrested as a fugitive from justice on a court warrant and charged with operation a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

December 3

1:40 p.m. - A male outside of Chipotle on Derby Street was reportedly asking girls if they were interested in a job. He was not an employee of the restaurant as he was seen waiting in line to order food. A search for the man was unsuccessful.

4:36 p.m. - A caller reported that a female driving was followed by another vehicle. After the female was followed for several miles, the male ran into Jos. A. Bank and assaulted an employee. While waiting for police to arrive, employees of the clothing store held the man down.

Michael Mercurio, 46, of Weymouth, was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property over $250, disorderly conduct, and assault and battery.
