Police Looking for Suspect in Carjacking and Armed Robbery

Linden Ponds in Hingham was locked down briefly Friday afternoon after an armed robbery and carjacking of an elderly woman.

Hingham and Weymouth police continued to search Friday night for one suspect in an armed robbery who also stole an 85-year-old Hingham woman's vehicle. Another suspect was taken into custody by Weymouth police.


The elderly woman was injured during the carjacking, and brought to the hospital by family members, according to a statement released by the Hingham Police Department. She was sitting in her car in the parking lot at Linden Ponds when a man opened her door, demanded her keys and threw her onto the pavement.

"The suspect did not show a weapon to the victim. Several witnesses were present and reported the incident immediately," according to police.

The carjacking suspect apparently fled with the other suspect from an armed robbery at a Weymouth business near the Weymouth/Hingham line on foot toward Linden Ponds Friday afternoon. Hingham officers were dispatched to assist at 3:41 p.m. and during that response the carjacking occurred. 

"The suspect drove out of the complex making a left onto Whiting St. (Route 53) headed south and was last seen by witnesses turning onto Derby St. toward Weymouth," police said. "A short time later the carjacked vehicle, a blue 2000 Lincoln Town Car, was found abandoned in Quincy and recovered by the Quincy Police."

Linden Ponds was locked down while police searched for the second suspect, who was taken into custody by Weymouth officers. The lockdown was then lifted.
