Preserving a local treasure!

A year ago Hingham Girl Scouts took on a new challenge - to renovate and preserve the oldest Girl Scout house in New England. Efforts are well underway with strong support from Girl Scout members and the Hingham community.

A New Roof - Finally done! Materials were donated by CertainTeed and Beacon Sales.

Front Stairs Repaired - CS Mass Construction, while working on the roof, noticed the front stairs needed repair. They then fixed them!

Metal Refinished - Whitman Company donated refinishing of the heating grate at the front of the stage.

A Brighter Bathroom - Boy Scout Jared Chipman improved the main bathroom including paint and hardware.

New Badges - New Girl Scout badges were created by 8th grade Cadette scouts Emily Nash and Jacqui Baker. Girls can earn them by caring for the Girl Scout house.

Flood Lighting - Scout Dad PJ Burke added motion-sensor flood lighting to front and side entrances.

Tree Service - Specialized Riggings Tree Service donated a day of labor (4 men) to cut back tree growth.

CPC Grant - Hingham voters approved $98,049 in Community Preservation Act funds to help preserve the building. Projects will start during the summer and include improved drainage, siding, windows, and doors. Now accepting bids if you want to recommend someone.

 Donations - The 2013 year-end campaign raised $11,092 from 94 donations.

Strong Community Support  - Local organizations providing support include the Hingham Newcomer's Club, Garden Club, Boy Scouts, Veteran's Services, American Legion, Historic Society, Guild Consignment Center, and Wilder Charitable & Education Foundation.

Summer Party June 14 - Please join us for a cocktail party fundraiser and silent auction. We continue to raise funds for needed maintenance and operations - next in line are safety repairs for the fireplace.

Come have fun for a good cause.
