South Hingham Industrial Park Could Attract New Developers

Proposed Warrant Article would allow Hingham the ability to "promote commercial development."

A proposal to increase commercial development at Hingham Industrial Park is likely to be added to the Warrant for Town Meeting.

The industrial park in South Hingham could be open to developers interested in investing in Hingham’s already commercially-zoned areas.

Sue Sullivan, an appointed member of the Hingham Industrial Development Committee, said that a positive vote at Town Meeting will send a signal that Hingham is open to development interest.

“It is our intent to put forth the Warrant Article and then spend the next few months before Town Meeting doing our due diligence with each of the Permitting Boards,” said Sullivan. “We want this to be a combined effort and HIDC is only the conduit."

In the absence of Chairman Riley, the Selectmen did not feel the need to vote on this proposal but Selectmen Burns did bring up the possibility of residential concerns.
