South Shore Conservatory Launches 2014 with Fresh, New Image

Redefining SSC’s brand for the future

After nearly 15 years of utilizing the classic French horn as the focal point of their logo, South Shore Conservatory (SSC) has unveiled a fresh, modern image depicting a more streamlined, sophisticated appearance.   This bold new icon, incorporating the reversed SSC acronym into a solid blue cube, represents the future of the organization and its emerging mission.  SSC and its image, now speak to so much more than music.

According to SSC President Kathy Czerny, there are many reasons behind the transformation.  “Many people associate us with being only a music school.  We’re much more inclusive than that.  SSC offers an arts and literacy program for public schools, a full-day arts-integrated kindergarten program, a creative arts therapy program that includes yoga, visual arts and movement as well as music therapy for the community,” explains Czerny.  “People are now looking to us for creative solutions for communicating with populations such as Alzheimer patients and developmentally delayed individuals.”

With a mission to provide access to quality education in the arts to Boston’s South Shore, SSC brings families, students, dedicated educators and performers together, creating community through the arts.  Today, SSC’s initiatives offer individuals and organizations the opportunity to experience the arts, in the belief that the arts are vital to and an innate part of life, regardless of disabilities, distance, or financial considerations.
Over the past few years SSC has developed Community Partnership programs by welcoming collaborations with public schools and local organizations, such as South Shore Hospital, South Shore YMCA, Jordan Hospital and Linden Ponds.  At SSC’s annual meeting in November, Pembroke Public School system was awarded the Education Partnership Award for their commitment to arts education on the South Shore by providing creative arts therapies for public school students at all grade levels.

In addition, SSC presented its first Corporate Partnership Award to Hingham Institution for Savings for its commitment to creating strong and vibrant communities, and its generous support of SSC.  Hingham Institution for Savings holds the distinction of being the only corporate sponsor who has supported SSC’s Evenings Under the Stars every year since its inaugural season in 1997.

“This new image better encapsulates the breadth of our services and is more in sync with what SSC offers programmatically,” explains Czerny.  “It is a visual representation of what we’re already providing to the public.  The new look signifies the true breadth of our growth.”

An important component to designing the new image was to fully encompass the unique look of SSC’s myriad of programs such as Bay Youth Symphony (BaYS), Duxbury Music Festival (DMF), Summer Spotlight outdoor concert series and SSC’s annual fundraisers Chase Away the Winter Blues and Performathon.

Much of the change was inspired by a semester-long internship with marketing specialists from Boston University’s graduate program, who observed that the unique logos for each program detracted from the overall brand of the Conservatory.
