South Shore Conservatory Introduces Special Ensemble for Young Musicians

New addition to existing Summer Music Festival program

South Shore Conservatory’s Summer Music Festival (SMF) introduces All-Star Band, a wind, brass and percussion ensemble program for young musicians in grades 4-6 with at least one year experience. The program runs from July 6 through 17 from 8 to 10 am in the Jane Carr Amphitheater at One Conservatory Drive in Hingham.

According to Summer Music Festival Music Director Eric Laprade, “the program was established to provide an exciting and nurturing summer opportunity for beginning wind, brass and percussion students. The goal of the All-Star Band program is to reinforce and expand upon the first 1-2 years of instruction and inspire the creative spirit within each child.”

In addition to ensemble rehearsals and coaching sessions, All-Star Band’s two- hour sessions also include activities that contribute to non-playing musical development as well, such as daily movement/folk dance sessions, drum circles and a singing component.

As with all other SMF programs, All-Star Band concludes with a final performance in the Carr Amphitheater on Friday, July 17 at 7 pm.

Students interested in joining All-Star Band are encouraged to come and play a familiar and comfortable piece of music that best identifies their level of ability by June 6.
