South Shore Conservatory Joins National #GivingTuesday Movement

SSC celebrates global movement dedicated to giving back to non-profits and charities across the nation

For the second year in a row, South Shore Conservatory (SSC) has joined #GivingTuesday, a movement to transform how people participate in the giving season. Coinciding with the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday invites donors to take action by giving back to the charities and causes they support.

#GivingTuesday 2014, which takes place December 2, following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, focuses national attention on a day dedicated to philanthropic giving.

Last year, SSC participated in #GivingTuesday for the first time, with a goal of raising $10,000 in online donations to be matched by a private foundation. This initial participation proved to be a tremendous success. With the support of over 60 donors and the private foundation, SSC surpassed the #GivingTuesday goal and raised over $30,000.

“SSC has been fortunate to have more than 40 years of support from loyal donors,” said Kathy Czerny, President of SSC. “That support has allowed us, over the last couple of years, to expand our offerings at our campuses and into the larger community, reaching many children who would otherwise not be able to participate in these transformational programs. Our hope is that #GivingTuesday will help us share that news and inspire others to give.”

“#GivingTuesday reminds us that the true spirit of the holiday giving season is about community and generosity,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “The most meaningful gift we can give our children, loved ones, friends and neighbors is the commitment to work together to build a better world.”
