South Shore Conservatory Presents Performathon - Kids Helping Kids at Barnes & Noble in Hingham
SSC's popular marathon fundraiser returns!
South Shore Conservatory (SSC) announces that Barnes & Noble at Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham will once again host their annual performance marathon Performathon, on Thursday March 31, from 5 to 9 pm; Friday, April 1 from 4 to 9 pm; Saturday, April 2, from 9 am to 6 pm and Sunday, April 3, from 12 to 5 pm.
SSC also congratulates piano student Grace Coughlin of Hingham, whose award-winning Kids Helping Kids artwork was chosen to appear on all Performathon 2016 materials.
The fundraiser was so popular with SSC students last year that the Conservatory extended the three-day event to to four days this year. Performathon - Kids Helping Kids offers SSC students of all ages the opportunity to hone their performance skills out in the community, as they help raise money for SSC’s Scholarship Fund. Each performer solicits pledges from sponsors. Last year, well over 330 Conservatory students participated in Performathon and raised over 20% of the total financial aid budget. More than one third of all SSC private lesson students currently receive financial aid.

Over the four-day period, Performathon participants perform in hourly “sets” throughout the day. Audience members stay for one, two or more “sets,” with time between to browse the aisles of Barnes & Noble. Performances are varied and often include solo and chamber pieces on piano, saxophone, flute, trumpet, guitar, oboe, clarinet, percussion, violin, viola and cello, as well as voice.
In keeping with SSC’s inclusive mission to provide access to exceptional arts education and performance for the South Shore community, Performathon ensures that Conservatory programs remain affordable for more segments of the population.
