South Shore Conservatory's Concert Series Presents Made in America
SSC's talented faculty members perform the tunes that influenced American music today
South Shore Conservatory (SSC) presents Made in America, a concert featuring tunes and songs from the vast and varied landscape of American roots music, on Sunday, March 13, 4 pm at SSC’s Cox Hall, One Conservatory Drive, Hingham. Made in America is the fifth performance in SSC’s renowned Conservatory Concert Series (CCS) 2015/16 season.
CCS concerts feature the extraordinary talents of the Conservatory’s faculty of nearly 100 educator/performers. The series is generously sponsored in part by Boston Private. Admission to the concert is free, advancing SSC’s mission of expanding access to arts education and performance.
Made in America begins with songs that migrated from Ireland and Scotland to shape what we now consider traditional American roots music, and moves to the Appalachian mountains, on to the honky-tonk tunes of the Hank Williams era, and the bluegrass of Bill Monroe. This concert features some familiar and some long forgotten music that conjures up fond memories of days past. It also features original tunes and songs by SSC faculty members, and demonstrates how American roots music influences contemporary artists of today.
