South Shore Conservatory's Concert Series Presents Schubertiade
Featuring the music from beloved composer Franz Schubert
South Shore Conservatory (SSC) presents Schubertiade, a concert featuring the music of Austrian composer Franz Schubert, on Sunday, April 17, 4 pm at SSC’s Ellison Center for the Arts, 64 St. George Street, Duxbury. Schubertiade is the final of nine performances in SSC’s renowned Conservatory Concert Series (CCS) 2015/16 season.
CCS concerts feature the extraordinary talents of the Conservatory’s faculty of nearly 100 educator/performers. The series is generously sponsored in part by Boston Private. Admission to the concert is free, helping advance SSC’s mission of expanding access to arts education and performance.
The first Schubertiade events began in early 19th century Vienna, when Schubert aficionados and their friends would come together in parlors and private homes for an intimate concert with stunning performers. During Schubert's lifetime, these events were generally informal, unadvertised gatherings. While in those years many Schubertiade included the composer's participation, this was not necessary.

While SSC’s Schubertiade performance, which includes Schubert’s famous Trout quintet, may not feature the composer himself, it does include many talented SSC faculty members in an intimate setting. Featured faculty performers are Xixi Zhou and Mark Goodman on piano, Lorna Jane Norris on vocals, Cassie Sulbarán on viola, Sassan Haghighi on cello, and Chris Rathbun on bass. Guest violinist Julia Cash performs as well.
Following the concert, the audience is invited to stay, enjoy a bite to eat, and visit with the musicians to learn more about them.
