South Shore Conservatory's Evenings Under the Stars Presents The Mikado
Gilbert and Sullivan's most popular operetta performed in The Carr Amphitheater
South Shore Conservatory’s (SSC) Evenings Under the Stars (EUS) concert series presents Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic two-act operetta The Mikado on Saturday, August 1, at 7 pm. The last of four EUS Saturday evening open air summer concerts in the Jane Carr Amphitheater at One Conservatory Drive, Hingham, this concert is sponsored by Hingham Institution for Savings. The Mikado chorus is sponsored by Deborah Allinson.
The Mikado, also known as The Town of Titipu, is considered the most popular Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, and some claim the most popular operetta ever written. Centering on high jinks in a Japanese village where flirting is a crime, identities are mistaken, and all is well in the end, this operetta has delighted audiences for more than a century, and inspired a number of imitations.
SSC’s Evening Under the Stars production of The Mikado brings together a first rate chorus, talented pianist Elizabeth Cordes, and singers already well-loved by EUS audiences as well as new, rising stars from the Boston opera scene. Cast members include Phil Lima, Neal Harrelson, George Cordes, Patrick McNally, Jeremiah Johnson, Natalie Polito, Sara Oettinger, BeiBei Guan and Beth MacLeod Largent. The cast inspires laughter as they weave the magic that only Gilbert and Sullivan can create!
