State Budget Includes Funds for Hingham School Security Upgrades

Boston – Representative Garrett J. Bradley (D-Hingham) and Senator Bob Hedlund (R-Weymouth) announced today that the town of Hingham will be receiving additional funds in this year’s state budget for the implementation of increased safety measures in the public schools.

A six-member House-Senate conference committee reached agreement on the budget late on Sunday, June 30th. The full House passed the conference report on Monday, July 1st by a vote of 122 to 29. Under this agreement, Hingham will receive an additional $288,000.

“I am pleased that the House and Senate conferees agreed to include these much needed monies in this year’s budget,” said Rep. Bradley. “I strongly believe we must provide resources to our schools so they can take steps to better secure their campuses and provide a safe learning environment.”

Senator Hedlund added, “Keeping our kids safe at school continues to be a top priority and this funding will help these communities make their school buildings safer without creating an additional strain on school budgets.”

Post Sandy Hook, Representative Bradley and Senator Hedlund contacted local municipal and school leaders and asked how they could help improve school safety. This funding represents Hingham officials’ request. Both Rep. Bradley and Sen. Hedlund look forward to seeing the schools’ implementation plans to improve school security in the town and ensure that our children are in as safe an environment as possible when attending school.
