State Rep. Hopes To Create Trail Between Four Hingham Area Parks

Rep. James Murphy is advocating for the construction of a trail between Great Esker Park, Abigail Adams Park, Stodder's Neck and Bare Cove Park.

Hingham State Representative James M. Murphy will bring state and officials on a boat tour of the Back River next Tuesday to highlight the parks along the river and advocate for a linked trail system.

Murphy , who represents Precinct 2 in Hingham, is hoping to gain funds to create a trail between Great Esker Park, Abigail Adams Park, Stodder’s Neck  and Bare Cove Park.

The State Rep. believes that a linked trail system will help the parks become a recreation and tourist attraction, bringing in people from not just the South Shore but all over the state.

“A linked trail system will be a destination for residents and tourists to visit our community,” Murphy said in a written statement. “The South Shore does not have a trail system showing the oceanfront and tidal areas that are so familiar to those of us who live here.”

The four parks along the Back River do not currently have a trail connection and to get from one park to another you must drive or cross route 3A.

Murphy was able to secure $250,000 for a design of a trail and is continuing to advocate for the construction of one.

“When I was first elected I made a commitment to Mary Toomey to be an advocate for the waterfront and river areas,” Murphy said. “I continue to stay true to that commitment today.”
