May will oppose current State Senator Robert Hedlund in next November’s election.

May (D-Hull) released a plan this past week intended  to extend the franchise to every resident of the Commonwealth.

Highlights of May’s plan include creating a statewide Election day holiday, offering a State Constitutional amendment which establishes an individual right to vote, automatic universal voter registration, an end to corporate personhood rights and permits “no-excuse” advanced polling, and transfer government oversight to election administration to a non-partisan entity.

In issuing his proposal, may stated: We as a society have struggled to meet the challenge of “one-person one vote” but that does not excuses us from trying to create an electoral system worthy of the people of this Commonwealth. Continuing, May said: many of the concepts in this proposal have been implemented in other states; there is nothing that precludes us from taking up this challenge here. The right to vote is sacred, and no reasonable cost should be spared in creating a system which the people will place their ultimate confidence in.

Attempts to subvert the vote must be seen as a direct threat to the values underpinning our Republic.

The elements of the plan include:

  • ENDING CORPORATE PERSONHOOD
  • RIGHT TO VOTE LEGISLATION
  • UNIVERSAL VOTER REGISTRATION
  • EARLY VOTING AND NO EXCUSE ABSENTEE VOTING
  • CREATING A STATEWIDE ELECTION DAY HOLIDAY, and
  • NON-PARTISAN ELECTION ADMINISTRATION
