Summer Entertainment in Full Swing at South Shore Conservatory
Evenings Under the Stars Festival Orchestra and New York Times bestselling author/illustrator Brian Lies perform this week
South Shore Conservatory’s (SSC) popular summer concert series Summer Spotlight features diverse entertainment next week and throughout July in the Jane Carr Amphitheater, One Conservatory Drive, Hingham. Summer Spotlight’s two series, Wacky Wednesdays family concerts and Evenings Under the Stars Saturday evening concerts, each have a performance on tap. WATD is the generous media partner for the family concert series.
Wacky Wednesdays concert series presents Bats in the Band, SSC’s delightful adaptation of New York Times bestselling author Brian Lies’ latest children’s “bat” book, on Wednesday, July 8, 10 am. This special production features Lies, a Duxbury resident, reading from a jumbo-sized version of Bats in the Band, accompanied by music from talented South Shore Conservatory faculty members. In addition to Plymouth Philharmonic Conductor and Music Director Steven Karidoyanes, a Hallelujah chorus, string quartet, country, blues and rock ensembles, and melodious storyteller all join in the one-of-a-kind musical fun. Klara Geder of Duxbury plays the part of Little Bat.
Following the production children are invited to play with the interactive musical BATSmobile, complete with its playable “sewer pipe organ.” Lies stays after the concert to sign books made available by Cohasset’s Buttonwood Books & Toys for purchase, along with several other “bats” titles.
On Saturday, July 11, 7 pm, the Evenings Under the Stars Festival Orchestra and Conductor Nicholas Palmer present The Best of the Classics: Mozart and More!, generously sponsored by the The Palmer Family. Maestro Nicholas Palmer is sponsored by Phyllis Godwin/Granite Electric Supply Company.
