Survivor Tails Animal Rescue Achieves 501(c)3 Nonprofit Status

HULL, MA – Survivor Tails Animal Rescue, a locally based, all-volunteer organization that aims to foster and adopt homeless and neglected cats and dogs, has achieved 501(c)3 status.

STAR first applied for 501(c)3 approval in February 2013 as the group first go up and running in the Boston area. Within its first year of service, STAR surpassed its goal of saving more than 100 animals, saving over 125 in just 11 months. More than 110 of these homeless animals have found their forever homes through STAR.

With 501(c)3 status, fostering and donating through STAR are now tax deductible. Volunteers who have fostered dogs and cats through Survivor Tails thus far can claim any money spent on food, treats, toys and the like in 2013. Donations made in 2013 and moving forward are also tax deductible.

“It’s surreal. Almost a year ago we started on this journey together. Filling out our 501(c)3 application paperwork together was really the start of the journey. Now, to look back a year later and see how many lives we’ve saved, to be able to say we accomplished our first year’s goals and have our 501(c)3 to commemorate that, it’s just incredible,” said Katie Montgomery, Co- Founder and Co-Director of Survivor Tails Animal Rescue. “It opens up a whole new world of opportunities for us to save even more lives and do more good.”

“Not only are people more likely to donate because you are registered 501(c)3, but it gives people a sense of security that the organization is legitimate. It opens so many doors, and is going to help our organization grow tremendously,” added Megan Saucier, Co-Founder and Co-Director of STAR.
