Dear friends,
We are writing you as a committee of friends who have joined together to support the Gordon family of Hingham.
Jim and Terry Gordon are lifelong residents of Hingham and parents of four children ranging in age from two to eighteen. The Gordons have a love of sports and the outdoors, and are always on the go. Until recently, they have led a normal and busy life, with the hopes and plans that we all have for our children.
In March, that normalcy evaporated when Jim and Terry’s oldest son, James, was diagnosed with testicular cancer that had significantly metastasized. James had just completed a remarkable hockey season as Hingham High’s varsity team captain, scoring 21 goals, 19 assists and leading his team to the Super 8 playoffs.
The cancer diagnosis came just days after the hockey season finished, stunning not only the Gordon family, but James’ hockey family, and the Gordon’s community of friends and neighbors. Following surgery, James began chemotherapy and will undergo extensive and lengthy medical treatment in the coming months.
In addition to caring for James, the Gordon’s youngest child, Jennavive, has special needs and requires long-term medical care. Jenna was born with Downs Syndrome in 2009 and requires extensive occupational, speech, and physical therapies along with ongoing medical and respite care.
Our mission is to assist the Gordon family with the extraordinary expenses the family has and will incur due to their children’s medical conditions.
The Gordon Family Trust was established at Rockland Trust Bank PO Box 253 Hingham, MA 02043. Donations can be sent by mail or online at http://www.gordo17.com.
We are asking for your support of this endeavor through a special event: Gordo’s Gala: We got this! Scheduled for May 17th at 6 p.m. at Lombardo’s in Randolph, the evening includes dinner, entertainment, raffles, and live and silent auctions.
Tickets are available online at http://www.gordo17.com and at both The Cracker Barrel on Main St. and Hingham Lumber on Rte. 3A. If you would like to contribute a gift certificate, product or service to be auctioned off at the gala, your generosity will be prominently featured in our program, highlighted at the event, and on our website. Contributions and goods can also be picked up. For more information on auction donations, please contact Rich Magner at (781) 389- 1626.
