HINGHAM, MA — If you’ve driven by the 99 Restaurant on Route 3A, you’ve probably realized that it’s not only closed, but construction is taking place.
So what’s happening down at the popular restaurant? The bad news is that they’re closed for now, but the good news is that they are constructing a new 6,300-square-foot building that will house the establishment.
Tuesday night, 99 Restaurant attorney Joe Devin told the selectmen that the old home was nearly 100 years old and was simply worn out. The target opening date is Dec. 12, with a soft opening on Dec. 9 and 10 for friends and family.

“I heard from a lot of people when the building came down. I think people are going to be very excited to hear that they’re getting their new and improved 99 Restaurant,” Selectman Karen Johnson said.
Devlin said the total investment for the project is $1.4 million.
