Wine of the Week: Bell Lake County Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Each week we will feature a different Wine of the Week.
This week’s Wine of the Week comes from from a Food and Wine Pairing Part 1 class which was held at the store on Wednesday night.
The store is owned by two brothers: Ralph Hersom, a world class sommelier and Rick Hersom, a local businessman.
This week’s Wine of the Week is Bell Lake County Sauvignon Blanc 2009.

Hersom described this wine as crisp, refreshing and light. It's a perfect wine for a hot summer day.
This is just one of many wine classes Hersom hosts at his store. There are other upcoming classes which all have different themes.

“I wanted to share my passion food and wine pairing directly with my customers,” said Hersom.
At this particular food and wine pairing, Hersom put a spin on it. Instead of telling people what food goes best with each wine, he doesn’t tell the participants which wine they are testing. He wants them to “trust their own pallet” and decide for themselves. So they tasted three white wines, then tried the suggested items on the menu to be paired with. The class then did the same with three different red wines. Then Hersom reveals which food should be paired with the correct wine.
Resident Personal Chef, Kim Savage cooked up Lemon-Thyme Scented Goat Cheese on Crispy Wafer and Salmon Tartare with Avocado in a Soy & Ginger Sauce to be paired with white wine. As for red wine Savage prepared Parmigiano-Reggiano with an Aged Balsamic Reduction and Dried Fruits and Seared Beef Tenderloin on Rosemary Chip with a Blue Cheese and Red Beet Puree.
So what goes best with Bell Lake County Sauvignon Blanc 2009? The Goat Cheese dish is the one Hersom and Savage suggested to pair with this wine.
Resident Sue Davis is no stranger to these classes. She has been to a dozen of them.
“Ralph’s knowledge is immense," she said "It’s more about just drinking wine, it’s about pairing with food. I just wanted to learn more about the regions and different types of grapes.”
