Wings of Hope Butterfly Release Taking Place in Hingham

500 Butterflies to be released at the 5th annual family event

Hidden Pond at The Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham will again serve as the backdrop for the release of 500 butterflies to honor and memorialize the lives of those impacted by cancer. The fifth annual event, scheduled for August 11, benefits the Cancer Support Community of the South Shore.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., children can participate in a number of activities on-site, including a crafts table, face painting, storytelling, kids parade and a yoga demonstration. Children can also learn more about butterflies from the South Shore Natural Science Center. Refreshments will be served.

“Our goal is to have an uplifting event that teaches children and their families the importance of positivity,” said Megan Bettencourt, executive director for the Cancer Support Community of the South Shore. “It’s a unique opportunity for families to meet and interact with each other outside the traditional support group model.”

People can sponsor a butterfly with a donation of $10 (small butterfly), $25 (large butterfly) or $50 (family butterfly).
