Winter/Spring Registration Opens for The Company Theatre's ACT Studio One Performing Arts Programs
Voice, acting, movement and music classes offer year-round youth and adult arts education opportunities
The Academy of the Company Theatre’s (ACT) Studio One youth and adult small group performing arts classes are open for 2016 winter/spring registration. Classes run for 16 weeks for the spring semester, from the week of January 25 through May 30. All programs are held at The Company Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell. Students that register by January 4 qualify for a 25% early bird discount.
Founded in 2013 as an extension of The Academy of The Company Theatre, ACT Studio One programs offer education geared towards refining skills in the arts, giving the performer a process to guide them towards excellence in performance. ACT Studio One’s mission is to build confidence in the performing arts through ability in a creative, safe and supportive environment, motivating self-expression through progressive training to children, teens and adults. A faculty of established teacher/artists educate, nurture and encourage proper technical development in voice, acting, movement and music, leading students to confident, positive experiences.
For students ages 7 to 14, Center Stage 1A, 1B and 2 offers youth performers basic performance skills through progressive mini lessons including acting, singing, movement and auditioning. For students ages 13 to 18, Musical Theatre Workshop allows youth to experience every aspect of the creation and performance of a new musical on stage, from brainstorming an original idea, writing the book, lyrics and music, to blocking staging, choreographing, singing and performing. For students ages 7 to 18, Broadway Jazz 1, 2 and 3 offers beginner or intermediate dancers the basics of jazz and Broadway dance in technique, body position, expression and interpretation. Broadway Repertory Dance, for students ages 14 to 19, offers intermediate to advanced skill dancers an opportunity to hone their skill in dance and performance, through the exploration of original Broadway choreography. This class is ideal for musical theatre students. Studio One Dance Company, for ages 14 to 21, provides intensive auditioned training for intermediate to advanced dancers focused on comprehensive dance technique, working with a variety of choreographers and professional dancers, culminating in a performance. Studio One Dance Company auditions will be held on Sunday, January 10 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.

Children’s and Teen Voice 1 and 2 classes for age groups from 8 to 18 teach student vocalists how to use their musical singing instrument on their way to becoming a group or solo voice musician. For students age 12 to 18, Teen Improv bolsters the spirit of creative acting styles through theatre games and comedic learning, while Teen Acting1 and 2, for ages 14 to 18, teaches fundamentals by exploring monologues, scene study, and speech through the works of diverse playwrights.
Adult Voice, Adult Acting, Adult Tap, and Adult Broadway Dance classes are also available in 8 to 9 week sessions. These classes are leveled to serve beginners, intermediate and advanced performers who are looking to strengthen their skills.

All students have the opportunity to participate in performances and demonstrations at biannual Studio One Showcase presentations.
ACT Studio One recently appointed Corinne Mason as Education Director. Mason received her Master’s in Theatre Education from Emerson College, and a B.F.A. in Creative from The New School University in conjunction with a Certificate in Musical Theatre from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She has served as director, choreographer, educator and performer with many regional organizations and schools, working with students of all ages, finding each endeavor to be a mutual learning experience, enriching in its own unique way. She is passionate about the power of performing arts as a catalyst for social change, believing that theatre has the potential to promote empathy, understanding, open dialogue, and reflection for both participants and audiences alike.
