Work Begins On Jackass Park

Beautification Project starts to take shape alongside Route 228.

With the fine October weather continuing, the Shade Park Committee and the Department of Public Works have begun transforming the appearance of Jackass Park, a small area of land that runs alongside Route 228.

Designs were presented to the Board of Selectmen earlier this year and, after some discussion, it was agreed that the beautification of this historic part of Hingham was something that would benefit the general appearance of the main commuter route through the town.

There had been some concerns about the cost but this project has been brought to life thanks to a donation of $27,000 from the Garden Club of Hingham and with the full support of the DPW who have already installed a self-watering system at the park.

The building of flower beds and the planting of trees is expected to last for two weeks, weather permitting.
