5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 1

See you at the Lake Maspenock Boat Parade Sunday afternoon.

1. Welcome to Dr. Jonathan Landman, who today officially becomes the superintendent of Hopkinton Schools! Landman will talk to interested residents and answer questions from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, at the Central Office Conference Room, 89 Hayden Rowe St. Landman will also hold a second Q&A from noon to 2 p.m., Monday, July 11, at the Hopkins School Library, 104 Hayden Rowe St. Light refreshments will be served at both meetings. 2. The Fifth Annual Lake Maspenock Fourth of July Boat Parade will be Sunday, July 3, at 2 p.m. Boats will line up in front of Sandy Beach at 1:45. Rain date is July 4 at 2. If the weather is questionable, an email will be sent to Lake Maspenock Preservation Association members by 11 a.m. All boats are welcome. Dress up yourselves, your kids and your boats! 3. Sunday Concerts on the Hopkinton Common begin July 10 at 5 p.m.

A Golf Fundraiser to support the Hiller Football Program will be held bright and early, 8 a.m., Monday, Aug. 8, at Shining Rock Golf Club in Northbridge. $150 per player gets you golf, a cart, a barbecue and a chance to meet old friends and new who support Hiller Football. 5. No Movie on the Common tonight. Anyone up for a mass game of charades? It is also time for Hopkinton Patch monthly misspelling of a critical word. Maybe if I get it out of the way on the first of July, I'll be set until August. My favorite word to misspell is edtior.
